The Las Vegas Raiders are currently working to draft quarterback Aidan O’Connell, but before the Raiders drafted O’Connell last spring, wide receiver Davante Adams was another signal-caller they wanted.Houston Texans star C.J. Stroud. Stroud was selected with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but the Raiders tried to trade up for the first pick before then.
TheChicago Bears eventually traded their first pick to the Carolina Panthers, who ended up acquiring teammate Bryce Young. But if Las Vegas wins the lottery, Adams hopes Stroud will be that guy.”He could be No. 1,” Adams said when Stroud asked him which quarterback he’d like to play with during a game at Two G’s in a Pod.
“This was the man I campaigned to get out. … I wasn’t a newbie… but this was someone I felt strongly about and he felt the same.Of course, there’s no guarantee the Raiders would have selected Stroud if they already had the No. 1 pick. 1. Like the Panthers, there’s a very good chance they take Young. By the way, The Athletic’s Vic Tafur said he would have done the same. All this is now controversial.
Stroud immediately became the face of the Texans franchise, and Las Vegas is still trying to work through its issues in the spotlight. The Raiders acquired O’Connell in the fourth round last year, and he eventually became the club’s starting signal-caller halfway through his rookie season.
He’s certainly had his ups and downs, but he’s shown some promise, especially in his last four games, where he’s scored eight touchdowns and zero interceptions. Maybe Davante Adams is perfectly happy with O’Connell as the team’s quarterback.
