The League Cup match between Chelsea and Liverpool could go ahead after the capital’s police called for a fresh start.It will be the third time in three years that the two Premier League Goliaths clash under Wembley Arch for one of their country’s domestic trophies.
In 2022, Jurgen Klopp’s side won the League Cup and FA Cup, defeating the west Londoners on penalties.Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues will face the Premier League leaders in the final on February 25 from 4.30pm.
However, the Met called for the game to be rescheduled for a 3pm kick-off as it was classed as “high risk”. A Met spokesman said: “Preparations are underway for an EFL Cup security operation following the conclusion of the two semi-finals. We are working with our partners including Wembley Stadium, local authorities and the EFL to agree a kick-off time.”
“Our partners recognize that this is considered a high-risk match and, in accordance with national guidance from English Football Police, this match must kick off before 3pm.”
