The Green Bay Packers surprised many with their performance in the 2023 season. Not only did they make the playoffs, they defeated the Dallas Cowboys to become the first #7 seed in NFL history to win a playoff game. Green Bay showed their youth and inexperience in their divisional round game against the San Francisco 49ers, but they are a team on the rise. The youngest roster in the NFL in the postseason is a great foundation for the Packers.
The 2024 offseason will allow them to continue their development. There are several clear areas of need and many people look to these areas first for protection. The safety position has been a need for years, with a secondary overhaul coming soon depending on what they decide to do with star cornerback Jair Alexander.But the biggest need for the Packers this offseason is offensive line, according to the mock draft simulator used by PFF.
To be more specific, he is an offensive tackle. According to practice results, Green Bay’s punter should be Notre Dame’s Joe Alt. “At 6-foot-1, Alt brings elite size to the offense. This year, he’s become more able to use that size and length to his advantage, but still retains the ability to mitigate his natural weaknesses,” he wrote in PFF’s Big Board analysis.
Finding a long-term answer at left tackle is certainly at the top of the Packers’ to-do list. With David Bakhtiari out for Week 1, he is no longer the man the team can rely on to fill the job. In the last three seasons, Bakhtiary has played a single game. Rashid Walker and Yosh Nizhman lived hard on the network, but Najman himself is on a free office. If the Packers want to make changes inside their offensive line, they could push Zack Torme inside and make room for someone like Alt, who booked for Walker.
However, if the packer wants Alt, they can move it up the draft board. I’d be surprised if Alt was on the board when it was Green Bay’s turn to pick.Almost every mock draft has Alt as one of the top two offensive tackles on the board behind Penn State’s Olu Fashanu. Both are projected to be top-10 picks, possibly keeping Alt out of the Packers’ mix.
