Jurgen Klopp has spoken to his next employer about his long-term plans as he takes over following his departure from Liverpool this summer. The German manager announced on Friday that he would step down from his role at Anfield after nine years in charge of the club.
Liverpool advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup with an impressive 5-2 win over Norwich City, despite news that their legendary manager will be leaving at the end of the season.
Klopp received a warm welcome at his first meeting with fans since the news was announced. With rumors currently swirling about potential successors at Liverpool, with Bayer Leverkusen manager and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso currently the leading candidate, people are wondering what Klopp’s next move will be.
Klopp told Edopp about the possibility of returning to Germany in 2016. “It is very unlikely that I will still be on the bench at the age of 60. And if at the end of my career I only had the opportunity to coach Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool, then they would certainly have been three fantastic clubs. ” “Given that retirement age, it is unlikely that Klopp’s next employers – should he take another job – will have more than two years with the German before he hangs up his cap for good base-ball. Klopp will turn 58 before the end of his one-year break.
In an announcement video released by the club last week, Klopp played down the possibility of managing another club after initially saying he needed to get off the hot seat. “I would say not now,” he said.“But I don’t know what it’s going to be like because it’s never happened. What I know for sure -I will never handle other clubs in the UK than Liverpool. –
