If Jurgen Klopp leaves Liverpool this summer, he won’t wait a whole season to restart his career. At least off the field. The German manager said last month that the 2023-24 season would be his last at Anfield, saying he was mentally exhausted after a break from the game.
Instead, the 56-year-old will be working on an important family project that will get his hands dirty.According to The Express, Klopp is building two new homes. One is in his hometown of Wiesbaden, near Mainz, where he began his managerial career. But he clearly plans when he will have more free time. Klopp, who has previously revealed his favorite holiday destination is the Balearic Islands, is also building a house in Mallorca.
According to reports, the German residence is being built so that Klopp and his recently-grandmothered wife Ulla can spend time with family. But what surprised him was an overseas project. “The work isn’t done yet. I’m paying the bills,” he joked. The expensive property was bought by Klopp in June 2022 for £3.4m from Swiss businessman and artist Rolf Knee.
However, Ulla’s commitment to Merseyside has so far led her to take the lead in hosting the event. Klopp has told friends and family that the project is behind schedule and that he wants to “stop it” and help speed it up. The building design includes a state-of-the-art garden and multi-million pound irrigation system. Klopp, who took over in October 2015, spent more than eight years at Liverpool, where he saw his side win every major title in domestic and European competitions.
