Jayson Tatum uses this to get his 10,000th career point.
NEW YORK (AP) — In the second quarter of the Boston Celtics’ 124-114 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night, forward Jayson Tatum recorded his 10,000th career point.
In the history of the team, Tatum, 25, is the youngest player to reach 10,000 points. The 26-year-old Antoine Walker held the previous record.
Tatum remarked, “It’s kind of hard to process.” “It’s a major achievement right now. I feel really fortunate to be a part of this fantastic franchise. And I’ve simply had the good fortune to play on some really outstanding teams, have some truly outstanding coaches, and, of course, have some amazing teammates who have helped me reach 10,000 points along the road.”
Tatum drove into the lane, spun, and made the layup with 5:05 left in the quarter, all the while earning a foul on Brooklyn guard Cam Thomas. After that, Tatum made the free throw to put Boston ahead 52–48.
This season, Tatum, who was selected third overall in the 2017 draft, is averaging 29.8 points per game. At the end of the game, he had 11 rebounds and 32 points.
The coach of the Celtics, Joe Mazzulla, stated, “He shows up to work every single day.” “He dedicates his life to it and works hard at it. He never skips a day. He doesn’t skip games or practices. Not to mention his willingness to be held to a high standard, receive coaching, and be open-minded. He’s one of the ones that sets the tone for us because having guys like that, whom you can train, also makes it possible to bring out the best in everyone else.”
