Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has detailed how Jurgen Klopp informed the squad that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.Klopp announced two weeks ago that he would step down as Manchester United manager this summer, ending nine seasons at Anfield. The German admitted he informed the board of his decision in November, but only recently decided to inform the players and make it public.
Speaking on BBC Sport’s Football Focus, Jones revealed how he and his Liverpool team-mates knew Klopp would be leaving. “We were in the locker room as a team, actually in the gym, and we were all told we had to be there by 10:30,” Jones said.“He came in and it was weird. I didn’t know what to say, but I felt it among the boys and it was weird.”He broke the news and it was hard to take. He’s his own person and you have to respect that he’s dealing with his family. He changed me from a boy to a man and I am grateful.
“It’s about the team, the fans and the city and we hope to have a good send-off.”Liverpool were chasing four more finals before Klopp left. They are currently top of the Premier League. Although they are two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, they will face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final later this month. The men won their FA Cup 5th round group and autumn/winter season to secure automatic qualification for the last 16 of the Europa League.
