Cole Irvin maintained his outstanding record of not giving up a run through 20 2/3 innings on Friday night as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Cincinnati Reds 3-0.
Irvin, who is now 3-1 on the year, gave up just two hits in 6 1/3 innings against the Reds, both of which came from Elly De La Cruz. During his time on the mound, he gave up no walks and struck out four batters.
Brandon Hyde, manager of the Orioles, complimented Irvin on his self-assurance and pitch selection, pointing out that he can throw batters off balance with a variety of pitches.
In the seventh inning, subsequent to permitting De La Cruz’s leadoff twofold, Irvin struck out Spencer Steer prior to being supplanted by Yennier Cano. Cano figured out how to record two outs prior to surrendering to Danny Coulombe for the eighth inning.
Closer Craig Kimbrel fixed the success with a predominant presentation, striking out each of the three players he looked to get his eleventh save of the time.
Ryan O’Hearn hit a grand slam for Baltimore, who won four out of their last five games. The game was postponed by downpour for two hours and 41 minutes.
Reds pitcher Tracker Greene battled after the downpour delay. Jake Fraley tossed out Gunnar Henderson when he attempted to transform a solitary into a twofold, and regardless of two hits and a walk, the Orioles couldn’t score in the main inning.
Greene, who hasn’t surrendered a spat 14 innings, didn’t permit one more hit until the fifth inning. He strolled four players and made a recoil in 5 2/3 innings.
