The Las Vegas Raiders could release wide receiver Hunter Renfrow this offseason, and Bleacher Report’s Christopher Knox thinks the change of scenery could be a good thing for him.
Renfrow appeared in all 17 games last season, but his role was very limited as he had 25 catches for 255 yards without reaching the end zone. The 28-year-old has seen his role decline dramatically in recent years, catching 330 passes for 36 yards and two touchdowns in 2022.Renfrew, who played college football at Clemson, was selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed a breakout rookie campaign, appearing in 13 games and recording 49 catches for 605 yards and four scores. He then put up similar numbers in his second season, catching 56 balls for 656 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Renfrow went on to record 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine scores in 2021 en route to the Pro Bowl.Renfrow looked to be the focal point of the Las Vegas offense, but after that fantastic season, he was more than an afterthought.
Knox sees Renfrew as a potential steal in free agency this offseason. Of course, since Renfrow is under contract through next season, that assumes the Raiders cut him. It’s hard to imagine Las Vegas keeping Renfrow. Coach Antonio Pearce clearly doesn’t think there’s a role for him and he hasn’t been all that productive over the last three years. But maybe a different uniform could revive Renfrew’s stalled NFL career.
