It’s been 11 days since the Chicago Bears released Luke Gaesi and began their search for an offensive coordinator on Sunday.
The Bears have been linked to nine different OC candidates, but not much is known about where the former players went. But that changed Sunday night when Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer mentioned Luke Getsy as a candidate for the vacant Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator job.
“I’ve heard three names mentioned for the Raiders OC job: Shane Waldron, Kliff Kingsbury and Luke Getsey,” Breer wrote. This caught my attention for several reasons:Shane Waldron may be the best offensive coordinator the Bears have added in the process. Waldron has playing experience and has been coached by great coaches (Belichick, McVay, Carroll). The resume is legit, so it’s no wonder it’s getting attention elsewhere.
Kliff Kingsbury emerged as the Bears’ offensive coordinator this weekend. It was also a good choice. Kingsbury has head coaching experience and could be a good fit for a team with a defensive head coach. Like the Bears, the Raiders have a returning head coach with defensive experience. Therefore, Vegas makes sense as a possible landing spot for Kingsbury. Luke Getsy is not a Bear Country person.
So if he gets a coaching job somewhere else, I’d love to be the offensive coordinator for another team. If Gatsey ends up elsewhere as OC, that would mean one less spot for a potential Bears prospect. I’d also cross that off the list of potential trade partners the Raiders could consider trading for Justin Fields if they hire Gatsey.
