In the Boston Celtics’ defeat, Jayson Tatum struggles and gets ejected…
Superstar Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics had a difficult Monday night. The four-time All-Star struggled through a difficult shooting night to record only 14 points in yesterday’s 109-94 loss to the New York Knicks before eventually receiving his first career ejection in the fourth quarter.
Tatum concluded the game with seven rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and an awful six field goals out of his eighteen attempts. He was ejected for a technical infraction when he complained to the referee after Josh Hart had made three. It was obvious the referee heard something unfavorable. Since their 106-94 loss to the Phoenix Suns on February 3rd, it was the Celtics’ first loss when Tatum was starting. The Knicks won for the sixth time in a row.
The Celtics fell to 44-18 as a result of the defeat and now sit second in the Eastern Conference, behind the Milwaukee Bucks. Tatum may have had his second straight mediocre performance on Monday (he scored eighteen points on seven of seventeen free throws against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday), but he is still one of the truly exceptional young players in the NBA. Throughout 58 games this season, the 24-year-old has averaged 30.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists with a strong.602 true shooting %.
On Wednesday night, the Celtics will visit the Cleveland Cavaliers, giving them an opportunity to recover.
