Former Denver Broncos broadcaster Larry Zimmer died Saturday at the age of 88, the Broncos announced in a statement.
Zimmer called Broncos games for 26 years at KOA Radio. He served as the team’s radio commentator from 1971 to 1989, then became the play-by-play announcer in 1990, where he remained for another seven years. Zimmer has called more than 500 Broncos games, including 20 playoff games and four Super Bowls.
He was also the voice of the University of Colorado football team for 42 seasons before retiring in 2016.Zimmer was inducted into the Colorado Broadcast Professionals Hall of Fame in 2009, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 and the CU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.
Zimmer, a Louisiana native and former lieutenant in the U.S. Army, is survived by his wife, Bridget, a son, a daughter and a grandson.
