Jurgen Klopp has given mixed reports on the fitness of Mohamed Salah, Dominic Szoboslay and Thiago Alcantara ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Burnley on Saturday.
Liverpool face the struggling Clarets at Anfield this weekend as they look to bounce back from defeat at Arsenal last time out, but they will be without many key players from Vincent Kompany’s side. Salah has been ruled out of Liverpool’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations since their New Year’s Day win over Newcastle United after picking up an injury and will not feature in Saturday’s match.
Speaking about Salah’s recovery in his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: “Right direction. We don’t know, but I hope it will be shared next week.”But we have to see it. Now you are going through all the steps. But look, it’s positive. Next week or the week after. “If you ask me, I think it will happen next week,” he said.Midfield duo Szoboszlai and Thiago are also unavailable for the trip to Burnley, with Thiago picking up another injury after making his first appearance on the bench in 10 months against Arsenal.
The Spaniard has been rumored to be sidelined at Liverpool this season with a muscle injury, but Klopp said there is no timetable for his return.”Thiago is not feeling well. He’s been on LFCTV a lot and he’s looked good so I’ve taken him out and given him a few minutes,” the Liverpool boss said. “It’s a muscle problem. I don’t know to what extent yet, but it’s not that good. .
“It’s not good news for him or us.”Asked if he expected Thiago to play again this season, Klopp said: “Yes, but we didn’t really think about it, we just read the injuries and did a full assessment. “It’s not a major injury. There’s not much to say. But that’s something nobody needs.”Klopp said of Szoboszlai’s fitness: “Dom is currently running outside in the winter rain. Of course, it’s not ready for tomorrow.
“Then I’ll have to take a look. As always with these things, the player doesn’t get sick quickly. The same as before. It’s definitely not good for him to have her again. “Is it Brighton [when he returns]? [Carabao Cup] Is this the final? After the final? I do not know now. –
