After more than two decades in professional football, veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson has officially announced his retirement from the game — closing the chapter on one of the most unique careers in modern English football.
Carson’s story is unlike most. Despite playing just 107 minutes for Manchester City, his impact inside the dressing room far outweighed his time on the pitch. Over his six-year stay at the Etihad, he became a trusted presence, a mentor to younger players, and a valued member of Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning squad.
During his City spell, Carson collected an astonishing 12 trophies, including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and most memorably, the UEFA Champions League in 2023. His professionalism and attitude earned him immense respect from teammates and staff alike, who often described him as the “ultimate team man.”
Before joining City, Carson’s career saw him represent clubs such as Leeds United, Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, and Derby County, as well as earning four caps for the England national team.
While his playing time in recent years was minimal, Carson’s influence remained significant — a quiet leader, always ready, always dependable.
As he hangs up his gloves, fans and players alike celebrate a career defined not by minutes played, but by commitment, consistency, and character.
A true professional bows out with class — Scott Carson, football will miss you.
