The Miami Heat might let you go. He sends a message to one of his old friends.Action Network’s Matt Moore reported this weekend that the Heat are interested in reuniting with veteran center Kelly Olynyk. Moore points out that Olympique, currently with the Utah Jazz, is a hot asset around the league ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
The 32-year-old Olynyk’s $12.2 million contract has expired. As the Jazz get younger this season, his minutes per game have dropped to 20.2, but he’s still hitting a career-high 42.7 percent of his 3-point attempts. Olympique, a former lottery pick, was an excellent replacement for Bam Adebayo when he was injured and previously played from 2017 to 2021, including the 2020 NBA Finals. Miami has a lot of problems these days without a consistent big to support Adebayo.
Thomas Bryant is a one-sided offensive player who only makes noise in select games, and 23-year-old Orlando Robinson is still too raw for an everyday role. Meanwhile, Kevin Love continues to perform well with a 4 instead of a 5. Miami traded point guard Terry Rozier last month, but may need to make another move after their recent seven-game losing streak. Olynyk would still be good for them, but one of his former teams is also interested.
