This season, the Las Vegas Raiders defense had one of their best seasons in years. But the Raiders will need more help on defense. Most defensive positions have one or two quality starters on the roster.
However, freedom of choice may require assistance in certain positions. The Raiders have one of the youngest defensive backfields in the National Football League. Most of the Raiders’ defensive core has played less than four full seasons in the league. Las Vegas has now decided to play more positions on its roster this season, primarily on offense. However, there is some uncertainty in their defense as well. Veteran quarterback Amick Robertson will become a free agent this offseason. If they let him leave in free agency, the Raiders could be looking for a good replacement. Robertson has performed well since joining the league.
This was his fourth season as a pro and he is having the best season of his career, playing more minutes this season than last season. Robertson recorded a career-high 50 tackles and two sacks each this season. During his time with the Raiders, Robertson showed multiple times that he could be a quality starting pitcher in the league. But with the addition of veteran Jack Jones, Robertson has a legitimate challenger for the starting cornerback position.
Bringing Robertson back makes sense on many levels, and while many agree he should return to the Raiders, Robertson and the Raiders have options if they can’t come to an agreement. The Raiders have the 13th overall pick in the draft and could be one of the best cornerbacks in this year’s NFL draft. There are also some quality options at cornerback on the free agent market. Especially Adoree Jackson of the New York Giants.
Robertson has been a solid player for the Raiders and has untapped potential. Only time will tell if he will return to Las Vegas.The NFL Scouting Combine will be held from February 27 to March 4, 2024 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The NFL Draft will be held April 25-27, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. The Las Vegas Raiders are currently 13th overall.
