Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers front office have a big opportunity ahead of them this offseason. After a surprising and unexpected run to a division in the NFL playoffs, the Packers are considered a sleeper contender for next season’s Super Bowl.
However, the roster needs to improve to live up to those expectations. There were some glaring holes the Packers will need to plug during the 2023 NFL season. The problems were mainly on the defensive side of the football. Green Bay has already solved one of its problems. They decided to fire defensive coordinator Joe Barry to start the season.
No decision has yet been made on who will replace Barry, but several excellent candidates have already been interviewed. There were also problems in defensive support. Jair Alexander was not healthy and neither was Eric Stokes. Adding a young cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft could be a smart move. The Packers hit a home run with the 25th overall pick in a new mock draft released by CBS Sports.
They have Alabama’s favorite McKinstry Kool-Aid, Green Bay.“It was announced last week that defensive coordinator Joe Barry will not be returning to Green Bay. The Packers will sign Kool-Aid McKinstry to compete with Carrington Valentine and create depth.McKinstry has shown he can play in man and zone coverage. This trait is very important in the NFL. He’s also a good tackler and can help in run defense. At 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, McKinstry is a physical cornerback. He is fearless and has a knack for making big plays.
Bleacher Report currently has McKinstry’s professional equation listed as New Orleans Saints star Marshawn Lattimore. This matchup is perfect for a young cornerback. It will be interesting to see what direction the Packers take in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Following McKinstry would certainly be a good choice.
