Shanahan outlines what happened on each of Purdy’s four picks against the Ravens
Blown opportunities, turnovers, and penalties, according to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, were major contributors in the team’s 33-19 Christmas loss to the Ravens.
Brock Purdy made some costly errors in the 49ers’ 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, tossing a career-high four interceptions, but his coach indicated that blaming him isn’t as easy as it appears.
However, Kyle Shanahan perceived the interception that ended the 49ers’ first drive as a poor decision by his young quarterback.
“I get what he saw,” Shanahan said via conference call on Tuesday. “Some space flashed by, and he just reacted and let it rip.” He was probably feeling quite good after the first few games and thought he He could get it in there, but he can’t with that coverage. That was a bad decision.”
Purdy noticed Deebo Samuel open in the end zone between two Baltimore defenders as he rushed to the right after the 49ers had driven to the Ravens’ 15-yard line. Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton, on the other hand, read the play and leaped the route to intercept Purdy’s ball.
Purdy’s second interception, according to Shanahan, was more forgivable. While Purdy threw the accurate checkdown pass, Ravens cornerback Brandon Stephens made a great play by tipping the ball toward teammate Marlon Humphrey, who made the interception.
