Liverpool were informed on Friday morning that Jurgen Klopp has decided to leave the club at the end of the season. The 56-year-old arrived at Anfield in October 2015 to replace recently sacked Merseyside boss Brendan Rodgers and has been tasked with establishing Liverpool as top contenders once again.
Klopp has done a great job leading Liverpool to the Champions League title in 2019 and the club’s first Premier League title in 2020. The German has also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Club World Cup and European Super Cup in his eight years spent at United, reaching the 90-point mark three times in the English top flight. According to The Telegraph , Liverpool were informed of Klopp’s decision to leave on Friday morning, minutes before the announcement was made to the football world.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has informed his employers of his desire to leave the club in November, while United await updates on the squad. Having made several key midfield additions in the summer transfer window, Klopp’s side are heading for a successful season in 2023/24.
Liverpool are currently five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. This prevented the German manager from winning more league titles in England. Klopp’s Chelsea at Wembley are still a long way from back-to-back victories after being held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday.
Liverpool advanced to the last 16 of the Europa League last December after beating a group that included Toulouse, Union SG and LASK, while the Merseysiders were among the favorites to win their second UEFA competition clubs. Klopp’s forwards had a tough performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round earlier this month but won 2-0 at Mikel Arteta’s Gooners on Sunday to set up a fourth-round clash with Norwich City.
The 56-year-old has ruled out managing another club in England after building a strong relationship with Liverpool, with the former Mainz player suggesting he may not return to management at all. Klopp played in 465 games over eight years, recording 289 wins, 95 draws and 81 defeats, with a win percentage of 62.2%.
