Jurgen Klopp will replace Julian Nagelsmann as Germany coach after Euro 2024, months after his Liverpool tenure ends.
Kloppannounced on Friday that this would be his last season at Liverpool, with the German “running out of energy” after nine years of winning the Premier League and Champions League.
The 56-year-old said he needed some time away from the game. “Next year there will be no club, no country,” he said.
However, his native Germany could soon move Nagelsmann after several years without a contract. Please use your account “Germany’s national football team will test Jurgen Klopp’s resolve after the Liverpool manager announced he will take a year off from his playing career after leaving Anfield at the end of the season,” reports The Daily’s Jack McEachern Express.
Nagelsmann hasn’t been on fire since taking over in September, beating Bundesliga unknowns like Kevin Behrens and Robert Andrić and losing their last two games to Turkey and Austria.
A disappointing performance at the European Championship – perhaps not an outright triumph – could leave the former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich manager out of a job again. DFB vice-president Ronnie Zimmermann has previously hinted at a move for Klopp.”I think it goes without saying that Jurgen Klopp is a great manager.”
He continued: “There is no need to talk about the fact that he can be a candidate for the position of coach of the national team.“But Christmas was a time when you could make those wishes. After the European Championship we will not talk about what we want, but about the coach of the national team. But I think I can live better with Jurgen Klopp than anyone else.”
