In the middle of a close MVP race between 49ers studs Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey, the former praised the latter.
It’s unusual for a club to have two viable MVP contenders. This season, however, the San Francisco 49ers have two strong candidates for MVP. We’re talking about QB Brock Purdy and RB Christian McCaffrey, of course. Both players have been terrific on the field, leading San Francisco to the best record in the NFL.

“”He does everything,” Purdy told reporters. “I think he’s the reason our pass game, play-action pass, and all that kind of stuff opened up because he sets the standard with the run game and then when we do pass the ball, he’s there in our play.” He catches the ball, he makes people miss, he can go up against safeties and linebackers and make them miss, and he can do a lot of other things in the pass game.
After that, he scores touchdowns, His stats are insane. So he’s a valuable player, and I respect him.
McCaffrey is the best non-QB MVP candidate in years. Purdy remarked that the 49ers RB’s stats are beyond crazy. This season, McCaffrey has just over 1800 all-purpose yards, over 1300 of which are rushing yards.
He also has 20 total touchdowns this season. He’s been the driving force behind the 49ers’ success.
If McCaffrey is the engine, Purdy is the driver who keeps everything running smoothly. Purdy will be considered for MVP as the quarterback of the league’s best club. The 49ers quarterback is no slouch: Purdy is on pace to throw for 4000 yards with a remarkable 4.1 TD-INT ratio (29 TDs to 7 INTs) this season. However, his case is admittedly weaker Than other QBs that have won the award.
