Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe praise Roger for his retirement…
John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg have showered Roger Federer with love as he prepares to retire from tennis after this week’s Laver Cup in London.
Roger Federer made light of the fact that he might never give up tennis in order to pursue his goal of prolonging his career.
The third-ranked player in the world, Federer, turned 38 in August, and he recently wrapped up an incredibly fruitful tour with Alexander Zverev.
The 20-time grand slam champion finished the season with four trophies, but he was denied success at Wimbledon after falling to Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final.
Federer has just invested in Swiss-based shoe firm On Running, but he claims his business endeavor is not an indication he is set to retire playing the sport he loves.
During his interview on the Today Show, Federer stated, “I think they all needed to know. I have been asked all week about how retirement is going to be and when it is going to happen.”
“But no, this is not about retirement. My aim is to play as long as possible because [the firm] does not want me to retire. I refuse to ever retire!”
Given the influence tennis has on the rest of his life, Federer did admit that he is looking forward to the freedom that comes with eventually retiring.
