Chelsea will play Liverpool without Levy Colwille in the Premier League on Wednesday. In his first full season at Stamford Bridge, Colville was regularly deployed as a left-back rather than a central midfielder. Despite this, the academy graduate logged the most minutes of any Chelsea player in 2023/24, with 24 starts and three substitute appearances in all competitions.Colville made his 24th start on Friday when he was named in the starting XI to face Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round.
However, the 20-year-old was forced off after Alfie Gilchrist was recalled after picking up a minor injury in training. After the game and with five days off before the trip to Merseyside, manager Mauricio Pochettino suggested England could wait to recover in time for the key game at Anfield. That may not be the case as Colville did not take part in training on Monday, according to the Evening Standard.
Colwille is still expected to be fit to play on Tuesday, but there are serious doubts whether he can earn his place back in the squad to face the Premier League leaders. Gilchrist came on as a last-minute substitute against Villa, but Colville’s place on that occasion could go to Ben Chilwell.
