Most likely, when you consider the greatest NBA players, you see guys who had a great deal of self-confidence in their skills and abilities. Consider the case of Larry Bird. Though he was never the most athletic player on the court, the living legend was well aware of his abilities. The forward always stood by himself, regardless matter whether he was shouting trash, shooting with his left hand, or outlining his specific scoring strategy to the defense.
That also applied to dealing with some major celebrities on the court. For clarification, speak with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
According to Affleck, he attempted to collect a signature from Larry Legend in honor of Damon’s birthday. Bird did agree, but he was too busy to accommodate any particular demands.
Having grown up in Massachusetts, Matt Damon was undoubtedly familiar with Larry Bird. But he had a better look at the renowned forward’s daily routine in the 1990s.
According to the report, Ben Affleck wanted to send Damon a special gift because he knew his birthday was approaching. In light of it, he went looking for Larry Legend.
“I contacted Larry to ask him to sign something for Matt’s birthday present after we sold ‘Good Will Hunting,'” the actor reportedly stated, according to CBS News, which cited Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe. “I wanted Larry to compose a quote from the [VHS highlight] film. The clip came from a game in which he beat Dallas with a jumper after pulling up at the 3-point line, and the commentator praised “the wonderful arrogance of Larry Bird!” Three to win, two to tie!
And although having Bird scribble it on the tape would create a fantastic piece of memorabilia, Affleck failed to take into account Larry Legend’s reluctance to adapt for anybody.
Although the tale does add something to the present, that might have been a little disappointing.
If you didn’t know much about Larry Bird, you may think that his exchange with Ben Affleck was a little impolite. But regardless of what he was doing, the forward was going to behave in the same manner.
As implied by his well-known moniker, The Hick From French Lick, Bird was raised in impoverished circumstances. Some of the characteristics that made him well-known can be seen there. For the love of the game, he would shoot baskets in the dark and in the cold. He played against grown men and learnt how to talk trash. And, above all, he came to believe something about himself. The forward didn’t blink, regardless of whether that meant moving out of Indiana to become a trash man or believing in himself to have an effect with the Boston Celtics.
