Liverpool are expected to continue their strong form in all competitions in the new year as they prepare for the first leg of 2024 against Newcastle United.
Jurgen Klopp’s side cruised through the Christmas program with wins over Burnley and West Ham United, as well as draws against Manchester United and fellow title contenders Arsenal, setting up an unbeaten record. After facing their biggest rivals this week, United had the chance to watch Arsenal and Manchester City before hosting Newcastle on New Year’s Day. Klopp’s side will want support from Fulham and Sheffield United to gain an edge in the Premier League title race.
However, Liverpool may need some reinforcements in the January transfer window if they are to continue their claim. They won their second title under Klopp, especially with the likes of Andy Robertson and Joel Matip out with long-term injuries and Mohamed Salah and Endo Wataru missing from the New Year international squad.
Despite Manchester City’s huge performance in 2023/24, it’s no surprise who tops the Premier League table. Norwegian goalkeeper Erling Haaland is the leader with 14 goals, followed by Mohamed Salah with 12. But this is a name that will surprise Liverpool fans as well as fans from the rest of the league.
Former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke has bid farewell to the club to join the club in a £24m (£19m/€22m) deal for the aged 21 years old. Cherry’s role climbs to 10th place in the rating. His strong form helped Liverpool win even after he left the club in 2019. According to the ECHO, United included a ‘gain from sale’ clause in the sale of Solanke during negotiations with Bournemouth, which could prove useful if Arsenal are interested ( per the Daily Star ).
