Benjamin Henrichs, a defender for RB Leipzig, has reportedly had communication from Arsenal over a possible summer transfer.
The Gunners are now in the final stages of negotiations to sign Ajax center-back Jurrien Timber.
According to Tribal Football, the 22-year-old, who can also play right defender, missed practice on Monday in order to get a medical check at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Sky Sports writer Mark McAdam, just the valuation and the specifics of any agreement remain to be worked out between the two clubs over the move of the defender.
McAdam added that the player wants the move to north London, but the transfer has not yet been completed.
Plettenberg has reported (via kicker), Arsenal have held talks with the representatives of Henrichs, who began his senior career at Bayer Leverkusen.
His career then stalled during a three-year spell at Ligue 1 side Monaco, but his return to Germany in 2021, when he signed for Leipzig, has rejuvenated him.
He has won consecutive DFB-Pokal titles in 2021/22 and 2022/23, and has worked his way back into the Germany senior side, with five caps in the last 18 months.
Plettenberg tweeted: “Talks between Arsenal and the player’s management took place. Gunners considering Benjamin Henrichs as a backup target.
Arteta, who has a favorable opinion of the German citizen. With Leipzig, he has a contract through 2025; he is a key player for coach Marco Rose.
Joao Cancelo, a fullback for Manchester City, is another option for Arsenal. The Portuguese defender, who spent the second part of the most recent season on loan at Bayern Munich, is still a target for the Gunners, according to Kicker.
He won’t be playing for the German powerhouses again in the upcoming campaign after Thomas Tuchel’s team decided not to exercise their €70 million option to sign him to a permanent contract.
