Premier League legend Alan Shearer believes Liverpool will stay in the title race after beating Bournemouth.
Liverpool continued their 14-game unbeaten run in the Premier League thanks to two goals from Diogo Iotta and Darwin Nunes as they won 4-0. Liverpool now lead the table by five points, with four clubs, including champions Manchester City, having a game in hand.
Jurgen Klopp’s side won without Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominic Szobosleigh, who were in the AFCON before injury. But Shearer has seen enough to say Liverpool will be fit for the title mix by the end of the season. Klopp’s men have lost just once in the Premier League and conceded 18 goals, the fewest in the division.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, the former England striker said: “It wasn’t a great first half but Liverpool were strong in attack. Even without Salah, they are very strong in this position. “Once, twice. Empty. Liverpool won’t be leaving anytime soon. City got a good result last week, and Arsenal got a good result and got to Liverpool.
What can you do?” Everyone was thinking about how Bournemouth would perform. “It’s a tough game for Liverpool, for Bournemouth,” he said. “The second half was very good.”Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola also praised Klopp’s side after the game. “Liverpool was really cool.” he said
“Especially their first goal, which is hard to defend because they have such good combinations. “I think we can do more, defend better and react quicker to the second ball. If you look at Liverpool’s performance in the second half, it was amazing. “I usually do well in the first half, but I do really well in the second half,” he said.
Liverpool now face Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-final before facing Norwich in the FA Cup. After that, there will be two important matches against Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League.
