After that, Larry Bird would visit the gym “every single day.”..
It’s always wonderful to see some of the greatest players in NBA history eventually teach the next generation of players, and Larry Bird has done just that since he finished his career in 1991–92. Bird was able to maintain direct touch with NBA players who followed in his footsteps thanks to his prior positions with the Indiana Pacers as head coach and executive.
In order to help a former All-Star player get better, Bird really went to the gym every day.
Metta World Peace was that former All-Star.
In 1991–1992, Bird came to an end of his illustrious NBA career as a 12-time All-Star, three-time NBA MVP, and three-time champion with the Boston Celtics.
However, according to Yahoo, Bird quickly became a special assistant in the front office of the Indiana Pacers, the team from his home state, following his retirement. Later, from 1997–98 to 1999–2000, he served as the team’s coach. During that time, he guided the team to three consecutive Eastern Conference Finals and the NBA Finals in 1999–2000.
In 2003, Bird was appointed as the team’s president of basketball operations. In the end, he selected a number of productive players, such as Myles Turner, Paul George, and Danny Granger. Before leaving his post in 2017, the two-time NBA Finals MVP also assisted Indiana in going to two more Eastern Conference Finals (excluding the 2013 conference finals, when he took a one-year break).
As the Pacers’ president of basketball operations and head coach, Bird had the opportunity to interact with a number of outstanding players, one of them was Metta World Peace.
