“Jones’ Journey Ends: The Legendary Archaeologist Passes On”
Harrison Ford, 80, is disclosing that he was not the first person selected to don the recognizable hat, leather jacket, and whip of the adored character, even though his name is linked with the part of Indiana Jones. Ford gave a description of how he was cast for the role while promoting “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” the fifth film in the franchise. “How did I land the job? In addition to having the position, Tom Selleck was also required to perform a television series, and he was unable to get out from that deal,” he revealed to Deadline.
Ford claimed George Lucas, his “Star Wars” co-worker, contacted and insisted that Ford read a script that Lucas was mailing to his home. Lucas is the one who originated the “Indiana Jones” and “Star Wars” franchises.
The actor described what Lucas asked, saying, “I sat down, I read it in an hour, and then he said, ‘I want you to go over to Steven Spielberg’s house and talk to him.'” “I went over to Steven Spielberg’s house — never met Steven Spielberg before — I guess about an hour later I had the job.”
