Gabriela Sabatini: “Having autonomy is incredibly satisfying”…
In May, you celebrated your 50th birthday. Does happiness research really suggest that the happiness curve is U-shaped and that you start to feel happier again in your mid-40s? Although I don’t really celebrate birthdays, I am content today. I know how old I am, of course, but I feel great. I’m thankful for my health. for my current life and my
accomplishments.
Does one become more self-determined as you get older? Absolutely. Over the years, you learn to set limits and decide what is good for you. I’m more selective in what I do and only meet those people I really want to be with. This self-determination is very fulfilling and gives life a new depth.
Doing what you truly care about, in my opinion, basically makes you feel free. However, there were times when I gave less thought to what I wanted and more thought to what the public and media expected of me. That was back before social media, too. Today, there is a lot more pressure on the younger guys.
