Jurgen Klopp has insisted that putting blue cards in football’s sin bin is “not a fantastic idea” and would give referees “more opportunities to fail”.
According to a recent report, a blue card in English football could be tested by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which would give referees the option to penalize a player 10 minutes after committing a serious foul or foul. Sinbin has already been tried in amateur and youth football matches, where if a player receives two blue cards he is sent off for the rest of the match.
However, FIFA rejected suggestions that such a change was imminent, insisting that “all attempts should be limited to testing in a responsible manner at a low level”.Jurgen Klopp, 56, was asked about his thoughts on the introduction of the Blue Card during his pre-match press conference and the 56-year-old was not too keen on the Blue Card being used in matches . “We have to make everything as simple as possible for the referees,” Klopp said. “It’s hard work, we all know that. We often get very emotional when we talk about it. Because that usually happens after the game is over.
“I think the introduction of the new cards will give [umpires] more opportunities to fail. Because now that there are 10 minutes of free time, it will be debated whether the blue card should be yellow or not. He continued: “Doing so will only make it more difficult. They want to test it and I have no problem testing it, but I honestly don’t know if that’s the first step to agreeing or if I’m sure it’s going to happen. “It doesn’t seem like a fantastic idea at first, but the truth is, I can’t remember when the last fantastic idea came from these guys (IFAB).”
Mauricio Pochettino, Ange Postecoglou and Eddie Howe are among the main Premier League bosses who share Klopp’s views on the implementation of blue cards.Even if the inspection is not imminent, there are still many problems with the quality of public service in this country that need to be solved before the blue cards are introduced.
