Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has accused Mikel Arteta and Arsenal of copying Liverpool with their celebrations. He believes this is a sign the Merseyside giants are heading in the right direction. In an interview with the BBC, Jones surprisingly revealed that Liverpool were the team to start the celebrations with their fans. He said fighting supporters are Jurgen Klopp’s trademark and accused Arsenal and Arteta of copying it.
He said:”That’s why I would say we need to end things respectfully. It’s nice to have holidays and all, but we’ve always been a team over the years. Our fans talked about it and the director himself, as you know, hit the fan and things like that.
This is our business. So if they want to steal us, it shows that we are on the right track and there are people who will copy us.”Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-1 in the Premier League last week, with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard scoring. Gabriel Magalhaes scored a first-half own goal to draw Liverpool level. Arsenal were criticized by pundits for celebrating Liverpool’s win.
Football pundit Richard Kees accused Arsenal and Arteta of celebrating their victory too much. His comments came after the Gunners beat the Reds 3-1. It’s on beIN Sports (via GOAL):”I understand that today is worth celebrating, they beat one of the big teams and as a result it is very important to start the title race. But more than anything, I wish Arteta would behave better. “It’s acting like it did last year before the rules were changed to control it.”
He added:When Liverpool scored the second goal, I hoped it would be another class player. Third, again, there are two gifts. I understand. I’ll check my crits, but if you stick one into the top corner to make it 2-1, you’re good to go. But this is a gift. Have some dignity.”The win leaves the Gunners just two points behind leaders Liverpool, but Manchester City have since moved up to third.
