Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville said he saw Liverpool players leaving a nightclub at 4am during a match. He said this on a recent episode of the Stick to Football podcast: Neville, now 48, said Liverpool’s senior players at the time were “heavy drinkers”. He also spoke about Liverpool’s talented young players.
“What we faced [at Manchester United] was that Liverpool had a group of talented players at the time (1992/93), and I won’t deny that some of them were as talented as us, such as [Steve] McManaman. . . [lobby. […] Fowler, Jamie Redknapp and a few others,” said Neville.“Their older players were heavy drinkers. “Liverpool had a talented group and that was the year they lifted us to the title in 1995/96, but I think our senior players are more professional and more talented.“
Neville suggested that Liverpool players’ love of nightclubs may have played a part in their success during this period.”I don’t think excessive drinking led to our questionable match, but I do remember seeing the Liverpool players at Cheerleaders (nightclub),” he added. “I went to the cheering a few times on Wednesday night and I remember the Liverpool players were in the corner. The United players went home at 1am but the Liverpool players stayed until 4 or 5am on Wednesday morning.”After Marcus Rashford’s party last month, Neville stressed the importance of a strong dressing room with leadership personalities.
He also wondered if there was a leader in the current squad at Old Trafford. “It’s a big factor, the dressing room you go into as a young player and the impact you have on standard goalkeepers,” he continued.“These United players have been doing this for the last five to eight years. “If you’re a young player playing for Liverpool and Manchester City, you have a great chance, but if you’re playing for United now, who’s going to run the dressing room?” Believe.
