Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is among those surprised to learn Bill Belichick is no longer coaching an NFL team.
Belichick and the Patriots parted ways after a disappointing 2023 season, and none of the multiple franchises searching for a coach this offseason decided to hire one. “I’m not the person you hired. I don’t know the criteria for hiring these players as coaches. I’ve never left and I’m amazed that the best coaches don’t have any jobs you know. Brady said on his Let’s Go! podcast. “You know, I respect a lot of things in the NFL.”The history of Brady, Belichick and the Patriots is well known.
The franchise has won six Super Bowls with Brady under center and Belichick as coach. Brady parted ways with the franchise after the 2019 season, but won another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Belichick struggled with the Patriots for four more seasons after Brady left. “When I became a free agent, I was surprised that a lot of teams didn’t want me. You know, I was surprised that Steve Young started in the USFL and went to Tampa.
I was also surprised that Tampa traded Steve Young to the 49.” Brady added. “There’s going to be a lot of things that, for whatever reason, don’t go the way you thought they would.”Belichick interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Chiefs before being hired by those franchises. According to the New York Post, Belichick turned down the Falcons job.
