The Green Bay Packers ended their season last weekend in a playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.
It was a disastrous end to the year for the Packers, who were the best player in the NFC late in the game, but a self-inflicted fumble cost them the game. Green Bay’s offseason is now in full swing and some personnel changes are being made. The latest move by the Packers was Chris Gizzi, the guard and training coordinator.
“The Green Bay Packers have fired strength and conditioning coordinator Chris Gizzi,” the team said Thursday. This was announced by head coach Matt LaFleur on Thursday.Chris Gizzi spent the last 10 seasons on the Packers’ power team and was the coordinator for the last five seasons. He also served as a punter for the Packers during the 2000-2001 season.
“We are grateful to Chris for his contributions and dedication to our success during his time with the Packers,” said head coach Matt LaFleur. “We wish Chris and his family all the best for their future.”This isn’t the first big move the Packers have made in recent memory, as defensive coordinator Joe Barry was recently fired.
Green Bay is gearing up for next season and wants to put together the best staff they can to ensure a successful season. After a rough start to the year at 2-5, the Packers had a solid year, making the playoffs and beating the Dallas Cowboys on the road. The team showed great growth throughout the season, but lacked consistency.
Now that Jordan Love has had a year as the starting quarterback, he needs to settle in for next season as well. Expectations will be high for the Packers and if they can put together a good staff and find consistency next year, they will be a very good team.
