The Lions are expected to begin contract extension negotiations with QB Jared Goff this offseason after he proved his value as a franchise quarterback this season, according to Ian Rapoport.
Goff currently has two years left on the contract he inherited when he was traded to Detroit. He is slated to earn a base salary between $20.65 million and $21.65 million, none of which is currently guaranteed.
Detroit used a third-round pick in the 2023 draft on QB Hendon Hooker, but he never saw action while Goff led the Lions to the playoffs. Goff, 29, was the No. 1 to the Rams in 2016 from California. As he entered the final year of his four-year, $27.9 million contract, the Rams opted for Goff’s five-year deal. From there, the Rams signed Goff to a four-year, $134 million contract extension, including an NFL-record $110 million guaranteed in 2019.
However, Los Angeles traded Goff with the Lions for QB after the 2020 season with a hefty pick package. Matthew. Stafford. In 2023, Goff played in all 17 games for the Lions, completing 67.3 percent of his passes for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
