One of the first decisions new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce made with the team was a direct attack on the previous regime led by former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Owner Mark Davis hiring Pierce is a sign the Raiders won’t embrace Bill Belichick and the “Patriot Way.”Antonio Pearce brings in Tom Coughlin as a consultant.
NFL Network spokesman Mike Garafolo said Pierce will use his former New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin as a consultant to help the Raiders find their next coaching staff. The Las Vegas Raiders are giving up on the Patriot Trail.Davis supported the Giants’ decision to follow in the Giants’ footsteps when he gave Pierce the permanent head coaching job on Friday.
The Raiders hired Belichick and, after parting ways with the Patriots this month, have an opportunity to continue the “Patriot Way” at least through the 2024 season. Davis initially decided to go with Pierce because of the value to Coughlin’s team by giving up Belichick. Selecting Pierce as Coughlin’s advisor will help the Raiders build a foundation that will carry that spirit forward for a long time.
