Alan Shearer has sounded a warning siren over Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions, insisting that despite their impressive performances, there is a “worry” creeping in that could undermine their quest to dethrone Manchester City.
Speaking after Arsenal’s latest display, Shearer suggested that while the Gunners have shown maturity, depth, and tactical growth under Mikel Arteta, there remains one lingering issue: they look “scared” in certain big-pressure moments. According to the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, that fear is what separates challengers from true champions.
Shearer pointed out that Arsenal’s control of matches has improved significantly compared to previous seasons, but the lack of clinical edge in front of goal—and occasional lapses in concentration—continue to haunt them. “If Arsenal want to win the league, they need to shake off that hesitation,” he noted. “City don’t get scared. Liverpool in their prime didn’t get scared. Arsenal need that same ruthless belief.”
Yet Shearer’s comments weren’t just criticism—they were also a clear title message:
Arsenal are good enough. Arsenal can do it. But only if they stop allowing doubt to creep into their game.
The former Newcastle captain highlighted that Arteta has assembled a squad capable of going the distance, and their performances against top-six sides show they’re no longer the soft touch of old. But he warned that the difference between finishing close and finishing first is often psychological.
“The worry,” Shearer emphasized, “is that Arsenal have everything except that final bit of killer instinct. And in a title race this tight, that’s what decides it.”
With the season entering its defining phase, Arsenal now face a test greater than tactics or transfers:
proving they’re not scared of the moment — but ready to seize it.
