Breaking News: Nigerian Midfield Maestro Alex Iwobi Agrees to Join Aston Villa on Three-Year Deal – Fans Ecstatic

June 19, 2025

April 30, 2025 | Charlotte, NC | By Jenna Roberts, NASCAR Today

In a stunning and emotional turn of events, the NASCAR world was rocked today as three well-known Cup Series drivers — Martin Truex Jr., AJ Allmendinger, and Ryan Preece — announced, in separate but eerily timed statements, their plans to step away from full-time racing after the 2025 season.

The triple announcement — made within hours of each other — has left fans stunned, teams scrambling, and tributes pouring in from across the motorsports world.

While each driver cited personal reasons unique to their own journey, the timing of their decisions and the emotional weight behind them paints a somber portrait of the human cost behind the high-speed world of NASCAR.

MARTIN TRUEX JR: “I GAVE IT EVERYTHING I HAD”

For Martin Truex Jr., this season was always expected to be pivotal — but few knew the 43-year-old former Cup champion had already decided it would be his last.

In an emotional press conference this morning, Truex confirmed he will retire from full-time competition after the 2025 finale at Phoenix.

“I’ve lived my dream. I’ve seen the highest highs, and I’ve fought through the lowest lows. But after 20 years in this sport, it’s time for me to step back and find a new chapter.”

Truex, the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series Champion and longtime fan favorite, has amassed 34 career wins and a legacy of resilience. He has spent the last several seasons driving for Joe Gibbs Racing in the No. 19 car and remains in playoff contention this year.

When asked what he’ll miss most, he choked up.

“The people. The fans. The feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself. But I’ll always be around — I just won’t be behind the wheel every Sunday.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER: “TIME TO BE DAD FIRST, DRIVER SECOND”

AJ Allmendinger’s announcement hit a different, but equally emotional, note. In a heartfelt social media video filmed from his home, the 43-year-old driver shared that he would step away from full-time driving to focus on his family.

“I’ve missed too many moments — first steps, birthdays, just being there. It’s time I give my family what they’ve given me for so long: unconditional love and support.”

Allmendinger, a road course ace and one of the sport’s most charismatic personalities, has enjoyed a resurgence in the past few seasons with Kaulig Racing. Though not always in championship contention, his role as a mentor and motivator has been instrumental in shaping the team’s identity.

“I’m not saying goodbye forever. I love racing too much. But it’s time to be Dad first, driver second. Maybe I’ll still pop up at a road course or two.”

RYAN PREECE: “SOMETIMES THE DREAM SHIFTS”

Perhaps the most surprising and heartbreaking decision came from Ryan Preece, who announced via a letter to fans that 2025 would be his final season as a full-time Cup driver.

Still only 34, Preece’s journey has been defined by grit and perseverance, having worked his way from local modified circuits into NASCAR’s top tier. His tenure at Stewart-Haas Racing has been marked by flashes of brilliance, but also frustration.

“I chased this dream with everything I had. And I’m proud of how far I came. But sometimes, life leads you in new directions you never saw coming.”

Preece hinted at future plans in driver development and team management — possibly remaining within the Stewart-Haas family — but said he needed time to refocus his personal and professional life.

“The fire to race never leaves. But right now, I need to focus on building something off the track — for myself and for those who believed in me.”

A GARAGE IN MOURNING

As news of the triple announcement spread, the NASCAR community responded with shock, support, and sorrow.

Denny Hamlin: “Three warriors of the sport stepping away in one day? Man, this one hits hard. Much respect to all of them.”

Kyle Larson: “Racing won’t be the same without Martin, AJ, and Ryan on the grid. But what a legacy they’ve each built.”

NASCAR President Steve Phelps issued an official statement:

“Today, we honor three incredible careers. Martin, AJ, and Ryan have each left an indelible mark on this sport — as racers, teammates, and men of character. We thank them for all they’ve given NASCAR.”

FANS LEFT HEARTBROKEN

Social media platforms were flooded with tributes from fans, many of whom grew up watching Truex’s consistency, admired AJ’s fiery passion, or related to Preece’s underdog journey.

At Martinsville Speedway — where the series heads this weekend — a growing crowd has begun leaving handwritten signs and flowers at each of the drivers’ haulers, creating a spontaneous memorial of appreciation and farewell.

One sign simply read: “Thank you for the memories. We’ll never forget you out there.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

The departures leave major questions for team owners and sponsors. Joe Gibbs Racing, Kaulig Racing, and Stewart-Haas Racing will each need to fill major roster holes — with speculation already swirling around young talents like Carson Kvapil, Sammy Smith, and Zane Smith.

But for now, the focus is on the journey still ahead. Each driver will complete the 2025 season, giving fans a final chance to say goodbye.

ONE LAST LAP

Though their time as full-time drivers may be ending, the legacy of Martin Truex Jr., AJ Allmendinger, and Ryan Preece will live on.

They gave their hearts to the sport.

Now, the sport gives them its gratitude.

Three final chapters. One unforgettable farewell.
